The end of year 1?

Well, it's been way too long. It seems like a week or 2, but looking at the last date I doubt that seriously.

Well, I'm wrapping up my first year of teaching. Yorktown has been good to me, I've liked it here. The wedding is coming up in 25 days, then off to Jamaica. As of tonight, we'll have a new puppy when we get back. It will be a little male Wee-Chon named Einstein.

I'll be taking 2 graduate classes and starting classes for my teaching license this summer. It's going to be a full and fun packed summer living in Fort Fun!

The updatage

Well, tomorrow is State Wrestling! We have 6 Yorktown wrestlers still in plus Travis Kepner from BC. We have 2 guys with a shot at winning, the other 4 have really tough draws and could really only pull it out with the best wrestling they've had all year. It's been a good year of teaching so far, and I'm going to be helping with the spring play, Hello Dolly. I got my proposal approved, so I'll be teaching Organic Chemistry next year, a class to be taught with or after AP Chem. Hopefully the following year we can start offering it as a Dual Credit class, which means the kids get both high school and college credit with it.

Well, that's really all the news on my end, keeping very busy.

19 Days to Awesome

Well, it's the start of one of my favorite times of year. Saturday was wrestling sectional. We advanced all 14 to regional with 8 champs, 4 runners up, and 2 3rd placers. We have team regional Wednesday against Bellmont, we should either beat them by a little, or if the guys wrestle at their best, a blowout. Saturday is regional, then semi-state the next Saturday, and State on the 21st at Conseco. We should get about 8 guys to state, on par with Mishawaka, Perry Meridian, and Mater Dei.

In addition, academic bowl is gearing up and I have my team together for the Indiana ACS Exam and the US Chemistry Olympiad.

To make life more fun, I still can't get ISU to get back to me on anything. I've developed a deep hatred for state schools, between my dealings with ISU, Purdue, and IPFW. Also, Ball State messed up my Praxis reservation, so I have to set up another time.

To make life more entertaining I taped The Office last night and I was all excited to watch it. Well, because they felt the need to spend 30 minutes on commentary they started The Office 15 minutes late. So when I went to watch it today I missed the last 15 minutes of the show.

Now it's time for me to go to bed and get up early to work again!

Snow again? Are you serious?

We'll I'm snowed in with 13 inches of snow and school is canceled again today. The guy in my apartment with a Mustang decided to try to go to work and was able to back up far enough out of his spot to get stuck and block the road. Now nobody in the other apartments can get out. Smart move.

I'm bored and can't really do anything but sit around, so I plan to make several batches BBQ sauce looking for the perfect recipe. I've already got a lot of dry rubs made up, I'm moving to liquids now. If I get enough made I might start making batches of salad dressing too. Oddly enough I don't have any meat or salad in the apartment, but I do have a lot of Ramen. Ramen and BBQ sauce, maybe...

So here's a funny story...

So yesterday we had a 2 hour delay because of cold. I had to pry my door open because of the cold, no ice really, just so cold it wouldn't work. Then I had to let it warm up for 20 minutes before the power steering fluid was thin enough to let me turn. Awesome. And the snowplow had left a ridge of snow behind my car. We have about 6 inches, and the pile was bumper height, so I had to work back and forth before I could get out.

Now today most of the schools in Indiana are closed because of the cold. It's -5 still with a -30 windchill. To make it worse it's 35 in Alaska. Alaska! Isn't it supposed to be cold there? I tried to go to the store so I can buy food (all I have are crackers and condiments), but it's too cold for my car to start.

Tomorrow is wrestling conference, we should win it easily. We're 22-0 with several undefeated wrestlers and 8 ranked guys. If we get less than 8 into state it will be a disappointment, we could have up to 10. Should be exciting.

Welcome back old friend...

Yeah, so it's been a while. Life has been busy. I've been teaching chemistry at Yorktown High School since August now. I'm all settled in to my apartment, and my projector makes a nice 90'' TV. I'm helping coach the wrestling team, who is 22-0 right now and has a decent shot at winning team state. Kelli started her job and is working 6 days a week.

I don't have much going on outside of work, I have enough work to last about 12 days a week. I love teaching, and I'm starting a program to get my teaching license soon. In addition I want to start a Masters program in Chemistry after the wedding.

I'll try to keep this updated more often in the future.
